General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University – Sri Lanka

The General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University (KDU), which is situated at Kandawala, Ratmalana, Colombo. Ionnis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of modern Greece, established the Evelpidon Military Academy in 1828 as the officer cadet school for the Greek Army. It was established to train officers for the infantry, armor, artillery, engineering, and aviation branches of the Hellenic Army.

The institution also supplies labor for the Ordnance, Technical, and Transport & Supply Corps. In 1982, the academy moved permanently to Vari, a suburb of Athens. According to the historian Thucydides in his History of the Peloponnesian War, the term “Evelpides” literally translates to “bearers of high hopes.” The Corinthians characterize their enemies, the Athenians, as “adventurous beyond their power, daring beyond their judgment, and bearers of high hopes when in danger.”

There are academic and military courses available, along with day and night field training.
