Rudolph “Rudy” Farias, now 25 years old, was discovered by a good Samaritan near a church in southeast Houston, lying on the ground. The police and firefighters were alerted and quickly responded to the call.

The circumstances surrounding Farias’ disappearance and his whereabouts over the past eight years remain unknown. As of now, Farias is receiving the necessary care in a hospital, but he is unable to communicate verbally, making it difficult for his family to understand his experiences.

Farias’ mother, Janie Santana, expressed her gratitude to the person who found him and promptly contacted the authorities. The Houston police announced their intention to speak with Farias and his family later in the week.

The news of Farias’ discovery was initially shared by the Texas Center for the Missing, which was assisting with public communications on behalf of the family.

Farias was only 17 years old when he went missing on March 6, 2015, after taking his dogs for a walk near his family’s home in northeast Houston. Although the dogs were later found, there were no signs of Farias.

At the time of his disappearance, Farias was reported to have been dealing with depression and anxiety, and it was speculated that he might have been disoriented due to not taking his medication. Additionally, he had asthma and a slight limp from a previous leg injury. Farias’ family reported a sighting of him in September 2018, but subsequent investigations were unable to locate him.

Numerous potential sightings were reported during the course of the investigation, but none yielded any concrete leads. Private investigator Martin Renteria, who was hired by Farias’ mother shortly after his disappearance, received multiple tips but was unable to find him.

Renteria and his wife tirelessly followed up on these leads, even extending their search to other cities. Eventually, they had to accept the possibility that Farias, now an adult, may have intentionally chosen to remain hidden.

Police state that a Texas man who was reported missing as a teenager 8 years ago has actually been residing at home with his mother the entire time

A Texan man who was reported missing as a teenager eight years ago actually returned home the day after he was reported missing and has been living there all along with his mother. The mother deceived the police by using fake names and insisting that he was gone during the years leading up to his recent discovery at a church in Houston, as stated by city police on Thursday.

During a press conference, Lt. Christopher Zamora revealed that Rudolph “Rudy” Farias IV, now 25 years old, came back home on March 8, 2015, just one day after his disappearance was reported. Although Farias and his mother had interacted with Houston officers since then, they provided false names and dates of birth, misleading the authorities.

Zamora mentioned that his mother consistently deceived the police by persistently claiming that Rudy was still missing. As of Thursday, Farias has returned home and is residing with his mother, as confirmed by the police. CNN has contacted his mother for a comment.

Zamora explained that the district attorney has decided not to press charges at this time for filing fictitious reports and failing to provide identification. He added, “The investigation is ongoing, and we continue to receive new leads, which we will pursue.”

Houston Police provided this update on Thursday, one week after authorities discovered Farias sleeping in front of a church in east Houston, over eight years after his reported disappearance on March 6, 2015, as indicated in a flyer from the Texas Center for the Missing. At the time, Farias was 17 years old and reportedly went missing while walking his two dogs in northwest Houston, as reported by KHOU, a CNN affiliate.

Zamora revealed that after speaking with investigators, it was revealed that Rudy returned home on March 8, 2015, contradicting his mother Janie Santana’s persistent claims that he was still missing.

Zamora expressed skepticism regarding Farias’ alleged disappearance. Over the years, investigators pursued different leads and received tips, eventually collecting evidence that proved Farias had not been missing during the eight-year period.

Zamora suggested that other people had seen Farias at times, but Santana claimed that it was her nephew whom friends and family had mistaken for Rudy. However, Zamora contradicted this claim.

When asked about potential charges against Farias, Zamora confirmed that it is illegal to provide false identification to officers during detention, arrest, or when making a police report. Farias himself had done so on at least one occasion. However, the district attorney has declined to press charges until the entire investigation is complete.

Zamora stated that Farias, who is now 25 years old, is choosing to stay with his mother. The police have contacted Adult Protective Services and connected Farias with the Victim’s Services department.

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, approximately 360,000 reports of missing children were filed with the FBI in 2022, although this figure may include duplicate reports.
